Introduction

These terms govern your use of Private Press, developed and published by Keynell LLC. We’ve written them in plain language where possible and with legal precision where it matters. By downloading, installing, or using Private Press, you agree to these terms.

License

• Keynell LLC grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use Private Press on macOS
• License keys are tied to your purchase tier (Free, Test Pressing, Press Run, or Pro)
• Pro licenses allow up to 3 device activations
• License keys are delivered via email and activated in the app
• You may not reverse engineer, decompile, modify, or redistribute the software

What Private Press Does to Your Files

Private Press modifies the metadata in your audio files — artwork and tags — not the audio data itself. Your audio content remains bitwise-identical before and after pressing.

All file writes use atomic operations: changes are written to a temporary file first, then swapped in only if the write succeeds. If anything fails, the original file is untouched.

Backups are created automatically before every press (enabled by default, 30-day retention, configurable in Settings).

Private Press is a tool for file modification at scale. We recommend familiarizing yourself with how pressing works before running large batch operations.

Your Responsibility

When using Private Press, you are responsible for:

• Maintaining adequate backups of your music collection. Private Press includes automatic pre-press backups, but any backup strategy that suits your needs is sufficient.
• Reviewing batch operations and auto-accepted artwork matches before confirming
• The accuracy and security of any API credentials or server credentials you provide
• Ensuring you have the right to modify the files you process

Third-Party Services

Private Press connects to third-party services for artwork search and other features:

• Artwork search results come from third-party providers (iTunes Search API, MusicBrainz / Cover Art Archive, Discogs). Keynell does not control their data accuracy, availability, or terms of service.
• Confidence scores reflect text similarity between your album metadata and the provider’s catalog. They are not a guarantee of correctness.
• If you use iCloud Sync, Apple’s iCloud terms apply.
• If you connect third-party music servers, those platforms’ terms apply to those connections.

Intellectual Property

• Private Press™ and Private Press Pro™ are trademarks of Keynell LLC
• The software, including all source code, design, and documentation, is the intellectual property of Keynell LLC
• The Private Press icon, wordmark, and brand identity are protected marks
• Zero third-party code runs inside Private Press — all code that touches your files is Keynell’s and Apple’s

Disclaimer of Warranties

We’ve built Private Press with atomic writes, preflight validation, rollback on failure, and automatic backups. We stand behind the engineering. But software is complex, collections vary, and no tool is infallible.

Limitation of Liability

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Keynell LLC from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of Private Press inconsistent with its documentation or these terms.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. For material changes, we’ll provide notice through the app or on this website. The core commitment — honest engineering, your files stay yours — won’t change.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of Private Press shall be resolved in the state and federal courts located in California.
